Polina Foteva (University of St. Andrews)

Subject Community: STEM

Co-leading with: Inkindi Mutoni Sabine

"The spotlight of Laidlaw, as I think about it, is the opportunity for a change, more precisely, to cause a change. And change means improvement only when it arises from collaboration. This is the most fascinating aspect about being a STEM Co-leader – the chance to work together with all the leaders and researchers of the future to improve science communication, make scientific knowledge more understandable and research more appreciated."

"Hello everyone! I am so excited to begin my role as the Arts & Humanities Subject Co-Lead because I can’t wait to find ways for our disciplines to come together. The value of academic spaces is the limitless knowledge that scholars contribute, and I hope to ensure we have a robust and supportive network to keep our community thriving."

"I am elated to serve as a co-Subject Lead for the Laidlaw Social Sciences community! I'm excited by this opportunity to connect Laidlaw Scholars from various disciplines in the social sciences and from all over the world, learn from my incredible peers, and create networking opportunities for current scholars and alumni. I hope to foster an inclusive and intellectually stimulating environment through virtual meet-ups, discussion posts, and networking events. I'm looking forward to meeting you all!"

"I am excited to be a subject lead for Social Sciences alongside Sarina because I love learning from other scholars' journeys. I hope that as subject leads, we foster active community and online engagement. Who knows, maybe we can even host guests from scholars' universities to inspire us to continue being awesome leaders!"

Nikol Chen (she/her)

Digital Content Manager, Laidlaw Foundation

Hello! My name is Nikol and I look after the Laidlaw Scholars Network.

I am originally from Kazakhstan and I studied Human Sciences at UCL. My final research explored the potential effects of design on patient wellbeing in hospitals, and I also took modules such as Ethnographic Documentary Filmmaking, Anthropology of the Built Environment, Art in the Public Sphere, and other less interesting-sounding things :)

Drop me a line if you have any questions about the site, or if you'd just like to chat! I am always down to meet interesting people, so let's get [virtual] coffee ☕️
