Congratulations on becoming a Women's Business Education Laidlaw Scholar! We are delighted to see you on the Network and look forward to getting to know you better.

By becoming a Laidlaw Scholar, you are joining us on the mission to achieve equal representation of women in C-suites and boardrooms across the world. To date, we have helped over 300+ extraordinary women earn their MBAs, providing full and half scholarships to those who would not otherwise be in the position to reap the benefits of attending outstanding schools like LBS and SBS.

In this post, you will learn how the Laidlaw Scholars Network can help you to connect with cross-generational peers from other leading institutions around the globe, and reinvest your skills, knowledge and experience to help others succeed.

💡 We strongly recommend that you watch this short course to get to know the site.

Purpose & Vision

The Laidlaw Scholars Network is an online platform for everyone in the global Laidlaw community: current scholars like you (both from the Women's Business Education and Undergraduate Leadership & Research programmes), alumni, faculty, and our partner organisations.

This is a space for you to connect, collaborate and flourish. Here, we serve as each other’s inspiration, collaborators, mentors, coaches and sponsors.

The Network helps you to reinvest your skills, knowledge and experience to help others succeed by:

  • Connecting with other members
  • Sharing your programme journeys
  • Staying active participants of the Laidlaw community, especially after you graduate.

Put Yourself Out There

The Network is where you can form meaningful connections with peers from all sorts of backgrounds all over the world, be it to collaborate on a project or help younger Scholars reach their full potential by mentoring them.

Here is how you can set yourself up to successfully connect with others in the Laidlaw community:

Complete your profile

Upload a profile picture, write a short biography, and specify contact details. This makes it easier for other members to find you, get to know you, and connect with you.

➡️ Edit your profile

Stay up-to-date

To keep up with everything happening in the community, make sure that:

  • Your notifications are turned on
  • You are signed up for the digest
  • You are 'watching' rooms and channels that interest you

Check-in daily to see content from your peers and the Foundation. Our members post regularly, so there is always something new waiting for you. Here are our favourites:

👉 Leadership Quote of the Week - every Monday you will find an inspirational leadership quote to start your week. You can also suggest a quote of your own!

👉 Scholar Spotlight - we regularly shine the spotlight on one of our fabulous scholars to learn more about their stories.

👉 Opportunities - here you can find exclusive job/internship/volunteering opportunities from responsible organisations. Watch this room to be among the first ones to apply.

👉 Extraordinary Leaders - here you will find announcements and on-demand recordings of our Extraordinary Leaders webinars in which we interview pioneers and catalysts who are anything but ordinary. Most recently: Baroness Minouche Shafik, Director of the London School of Economics and author of 'What We Owe Each Other: A New Social Contract'.

Network, Collaborate, Mentor

Now that you've filled out your profile and made sure you are staying up-to-date with the community, it is time to connect with others! The Network is a perfect place for you to find like-minded peers, collaborators, and mentors & mentees.

If you are looking for people who are experts in a particular area, study at a certain university, and/or have similar interests to you, directories is the perfect tool for you.

➡️ Learn how to use directories

Direct Messaging

Once you find someone you want to connect with, you can contact them directly on the site - just send them a DM! You can also look at their contact details if you would like to reach out somewhere else.

➡️ How to use direct messaging

Video Panels

You can have a video call with someone directly on the Network using the video panels tool. Chat with a group of up to 15 people, share your screen, and record your conversations to share with others later.

Alumni Society

Our Scholar-led Alumni society helps you to stay in touch and pay forward your expertise. Right now, you can get involved by participating in events like Career Panels and Community Conversations. Once you are an alum, you can become a committee member!

Please contact Co-Presidents Areesha Siddiqui and Suhasini Vira if you'd like to get involved.

Help Yourself and Influence Others

Use the Network for personal and professional development. There are already hundreds of resources about leadership, such as our very own podcast, The Good Leader, as well as the Extraordinary Leaders webinar series. In the News & Events channel, you can also find the latest announcements and opportunities.

Scholars' Stories Channel

In this channel, you can document your journey and share reflections on a regular basis.

Self-reflection is a powerful tool of development, so why not blog about how your MBA journey is going, and share takeaways/lessons? Your posts will allow others to grow as well. Similarly, you can read other people’s stories to learn from them.

Start by reading our Scholar Spotlights to learn more about extraordinary Laidlaw Scholars!

Women in Business Channel

Here we publish material related to achieving gender equality in business leadership. Is there an article that you found inspirational, enlightening, or just something you'd like to share with everyone else? Re-post it in this channel and help others learn with you!

Wishing you the best of luck with your business school journey! If you have any questions, please reach out at contact@laidlawfoundation.com.

Nikol Chen (she/her)

Digital Content Manager, Laidlaw Foundation

Hello! My name is Nikol and I look after the Laidlaw Scholars Network.

I am originally from Kazakhstan and I studied Human Sciences at UCL. My final research explored the potential effects of design on patient wellbeing in hospitals, and I also took modules such as Ethnographic Documentary Filmmaking, Anthropology of the Built Environment, Art in the Public Sphere, and other less interesting-sounding things :)

Drop me a line if you have any questions about the site, or if you'd just like to chat! I am always down to meet interesting people, so let's get [virtual] coffee ☕️
