What went well?

The progress I made; what was achieved and done

  1. Introduction to Fiji culture
  • Sevusevu (a welcoming celebration in Fiji culture)
  • Vanua (togetherness and sense of belonging)
  • Fijian Languages (not only Fijian!! But also English and Hindi~)
  1. Team allocation for the final challenge (design a self-care tool kit for carers of patients with mental illnesses); meet with the staff from Psychiatric Survivors Association (PSA), a Fiji local NGO

  2. Skills session on Time management and Teamwork (which prepared me for the 6-week immersive LiA program)

  3. Guest Speaker: Dr. Waqa who introduced the non-communicative diseases in Fiji

What could have been done differently?

Things that did not get done and/or could be changed

  1. It would be more interesting if more people are joining the live sessions. But due to time zone differences, I was only able to communicate with a few.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?

Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited

I learnt that I am good at being an active listener and to help summarize points raised by different team members. I should have spoken up more to help raise the group’s momentum.

What did I learn about leadership?

Leadership attributes and insights I developed

Time management. It is important to always be on time (even for informal meetings). It is essential to respect others’ time.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

What I still need to develop

Be more willing to speak up, despite not being familiar with the groupmates.
