Week 5 Reflection
Week 5:
What went well?
Scribing within the ENT department went well since I spent time since last week specifically focusing on learning more about otolaryngology (ENT). I was even able to go beyond my responsibilities as a medical scribe and assist in procedures such as staple removal!
What could have been done differently?
I could have created smart phrases for ENT specific terms prior to my shift. I was able to create these smart phrases throughout the week which made my scribing shifts later on in the week a lot more efficient and effective.
What did I learn about myself while working with others?
I learned that I would love to work within ENT as a profession because I love the balance between time in the clinic and time in the operating room. I learned that I enjoy challenging myself with the technical aspects of medicine. However, interacting with patients feels like the most rewarding aspect to me.
What did I learn about leadership?
I learned that an important part of leadership is emotional intelligence. It is important to be self-aware and empathic when working with others. Trying to understand other people’s perspectives allows you to navigate social dynamics more effectively.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
I want to specifically focus on continuing to build relationships and trust with my team members at AFC.
