Week 2 Reflection
Week 2:
What went well?
Shadowing providers and other medical providers went well. It was really helpful to observe different specialities and talk to the other medical scribes about what works best for them when writing their notes. Discussions with the providers and medical scribes gave me insight on how best to encourage a successful clinic environment.
What could have been done differently?
It was hard to keep up with some of the note-taking process because I do not have much previous training in medical terminology. Thus, prior to next week when I will independently be scribing, I will study common terminology and acronyms so that I can be better prepared for note-writing.
What did I learn about myself while working with others?
I learned that my communication style is very assertive and direct. I also learned that sometimes it is important to adapt my communication style to allow for effective collaboration.
What did I learn about leadership?
I learned that effective leadership requires empathy and understanding. The AFC works with a diverse group of marginalized individuals whose voices are often diminished. Thus, it is especially important for leaders within the AFC to consider the perspectives, emotions, and needs of the patients when making decisions and providing guidance.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
I want to further develop my understanding of medical terminology and acronyms next.
