Week 3:

What went well?

Scribing independently went well. I really enjoyed taking on more responsibility and getting to have more of a direct impact on patient care. Working with Epic also went well because I had gained a good amount of familiarity with it in the previous weeks.

What could have been done differently?

I could have been quicker and more thorough with writing my notes in Epic.

What did I learn about myself while working with others?

Working with others involves encountering challenges and making decisions collectively. While working with others, I learned that my problem-solving skills and my approach to decision-making hinge on research, and how I handle conflicts within a group hinges on empathy and active communication.

What did I learn about leadership?

I learned that effective leadership requires delegating tasks and empowering others to take ownership of their responsibilities. AFC assigns tasks based on individuals’ strengths and experience to foster a sense of autonomy within the team and to create a more well-oiled machine. For example, the medical assistants are responsible for taking the vitals, the medical scribes are responsible for inputting the vitals into Epic, and the physicians are responsible for interpreting the vitals.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

I want to focus on creating more smart phrases within Epic next to allow for me to create notes more quickly and more thoroughly.
