During week two of summer camp, I finally felt like I started to build relationships with coaches and saw some improvements with my Arabic. I have begun taking classes at a local language school and I'm also getting more comfortable with using words and phrases on the field -- for example, telling girls whether they're playing defense or offense, lining girls up to switch stations, etc.

I also worked on taking more initiative at camp, even if I'm not entirely sure how to explain something or communicate perfectly. One of the coaches and I were playing before practice and I taught her the basketball game PIG (except we used an Arabic word instead). Then at the end of camp that day, we only had a short amount of time left and needed a quick game to play. I was able to get a group of the younger girls together to play hot potato.

This upcoming week is the last week of summer camp before we begin summer leagues for the next three weeks, as well as outreach camps to other areas of Jordan which the interns will be supporting. While I'm excited for leagues to start, I am also a bit sad as well because I feel like I am finally getting into a routine with camp. I'm looking forward to the outreach camps as I am excited to see other areas of Jordan and to meet new coaches and girls.

In the office, I've been working on a grant application, a grant report, and the organization's fundraising database. I feel like I've gotten acclimated to camp much easier than the office workflow, which is surprising to me since I thought it would be the opposite. We are being given a lot of freedom on projects which on the one hand is nice because having some autonomy allows for us to learn a lot about what we're doing, but on the other hand I think I have been working much more slowly on some projects as I feel a bit out of my depth.
