This past week was the second week of leagues at RC. Additionally, it was the first outreach camp of the summer. RC runs outreach camps for a week at a time in different areas of Jordan where girls do not have access to sports. Additionally, they train new coaches from the community at each outreach camp, along with bringing some of RC's regular coaches. As interns, we had the chance to attend one day of outreach camp this week. It was a really fun experience because the girls and coaches were so happy to be there and their excitement was contagious. I enjoyed getting to see a new area of Jordan and see how RC does outreach past their regular hub sites.
I also had one of my favorite days at leagues/camps yet in Amman 2 last Wednesday. A few other interns and coaches and I played an awesome game of soccer with the older half of the younger girls (around 9-12 years old). The same group of us is going back to Amman 2 this coming Wednesday, the last day of summer programming, so I am looking forward to that part of the week.
Last week was a bit slower in the office as we were in and out given the schedule with outreach camp. I am hoping to begin wrapping up some of my longer term projects, including a grant report that I've been working on for a few weeks. Some projects have been taking much longer than others because we sometimes get work assigned by our US-based executive director. Since she works on US business hours, it's harder to move through questions or issues quickly. In our weekly office hours with her this week, I plan to ask some final questions on the projects I'm finishing so that I can have everything done by the end of this week or early next week. In particular, I'm looking forward to finishing this grant report because I've found it to be one of the tougher projects I've worked on. Since I was not here at RC during the grant implementation period, it has been difficult at times to gather the information I need to write a successful report.
I am looking forward to this week, but am sad this is the last week of leagues -- our final week in Jordan we will just be wrapping up office work. I am hoping that this week will be a positive and enjoyable bookend to my time working on the field at RC's summer programming.
