The project began with the core objective of gaining a deep understanding of China's child welfare and aid system in order to define the direction of my LiA project. The initial plan was to collaborate with a children's welfare home belonging to the Chunmiao Foundation in Shunyi, Beijing, and design and implement a digital management system to optimise its operational efficiency and data tracking capabilities.
However, preliminary research revealed a significant policy-driven shift: due to stricter national registration systems, improved medical insurance coverage, and hospital transfer policies, the number of orphans requiring institutional care had decreased dramatically, resulting in the dissolution of the intended welfare home project. This discovery prompted a pivotal change in direction for the project — from providing internal process optimisation for a specific institution, to exploring ways to empower and support a broader social issue (premature infant care) externally. I therefore shifted my focus to the Chunmiao Foundation, which has extensive experience in premature infant care. My aim was to leverage my digital and analytical skills to enhance the efficiency of its public awareness and fundraising efforts, thereby indirectly supporting its aid network.
Below are pictures taken when I visited the children's welfare home in Shunyi.
