Week 6: Reflection
What went well?
This week, I had a lot of opportunities to further develop my working relationships with the community and the Center. I feel like I have a more comprehensive understanding of community dynamics - especially when placed in the context of my research goals. For example, I recently connected again with Sister Romana, someone who I've run into while working at the center. After a quick discussion, we decided to pursue an informational interview with the local Catholic educational institution in Mt.Pleasant. I have also identified further opportunities to evaluate archival data from the Archdiocese that the research team might need and touched base with my supervisor.
What could have been done differently?
I feel like I could have better planned some of the time that I spent at the Center on Tuesday. I had also wanted to look into doing more administrative work but the process to get started is lengthy so looking into this before the week started would have been more helpful.
What did I learn about myself while working with others?
I learned how it is important for me to critically engage with other people about issues to which I am passionate. I feel that the subtext of a lot of my work and research is centered around education. This subject is important to me personally and the ability to engage objectively has been really valuable.
What did I learn about leadership?
I feel that my personal relationship with leadership has shifted throughout my work with the LiA but I feel like the most recent concrete session I have learned this week is the importance of engaging emphatically with others.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
Even though my LiA is wrapping up, I still plan to work and volunteer with the Center. I also will continue to help with research efforts based on my work in the city.
