Week 3: Reflection
What went well?
This week was really interesting! I made a lot of progress on the research side - mainly based on my work from the previous week. I found a viable way to illustrate how geography, as a variable, factors into Archdiocese School closures. This involves looking at the geospatial components of locating closed schools through their longitude and latitude and displaying it visually on programs like Tableau. It is really intuitive and I feel like it enhances my understanding of the larger research question. Beyond my research, I also continue to volunteer at the Center where I worked to help with food distribution.
What could have been done differently?
I have scheduled meetings to meet with the McCourt and NCEA team but I feel like I can be a bit more organized overall. So, I want to create a more consistent schedule. However, this can be difficult because my work with the center and my reference professor can be really flexible at times.
What did I learn about myself while working with others?
I feel that each week, I gain new insights into the importance of working personally with others. I have learned that I really prefer to engage with others in dynamic ways. Especially, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, I feel that I have learned I work best when in-person as opposed to virtually.
What did I learn about leadership?
I feel that I have learned that diversity is a strong feature of leadership. The community I have been working with is multilingual and diverse. I feel that acknowledging and embracing diversity is essential in any context.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
I want to touch base with the McCourt team to better understand some of the research objectives and continue to contribute to the output of the Center.
