Week 4 LiA Reflection
This week kept us busy with another on-site event at Barclays. Building on our previous event with Street Law, we organized a second career workshop. We had 10+ participants, mostly young adults around my age from diverse backgrounds. Feeling more experienced this time, I was much less nervous than during our first event. We even implemented a lesson from last time by providing snacks - including Hindi treats, chips, and egg tarts for everyone. It really helped create a more welcoming atmosphere!
The workshop featured two key components: first, a career insights session led by Barclays professionals, followed by practical workplace etiquette training. The etiquette portion proved especially valuable, giving students concrete tips to prepare for professional environments. What made this event particularly rewarding was seeing how engaged the participants were. They asked thoughtful questions and had meaningful discussions with the Barclays team. By the end of the day, it was clear everyone left with new skills, fresh perspectives, and valuable connections with both professionals and peers.
As we packed up after the event, I couldn’t help but feel excited for what’s next. Seeing how much the participants gained from just one workshop makes me look forward to organizing more of these sessions. I am particularly eager to develop follow-up programs where we can track students’ progress and provide ongoing support as they enter the workforce.
