Week 4 LIA Reflection
What went well?
The progress I made; what was achieved and done
Assisted in an ICT booth, visited the elderly people and edited the VR videos for the video filming.
What could have been done differently?
Things that did not get done and/or could be changed
Some training should given to the elderly people volunteering for the booth. I understand that briefings were already given to the elderly people for booths in the past. However, more training could be given to more effectively handle enquiries. Clearer division of labour would help, although flexibility when it comes to the deployment of personnel is obviously important.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited
Flexibility in the sense that I can switch task fairly quickly and be able to adjust myself and the flow of work to suit the needs at the time (e.g. in case there are so many people stuck at a station).
What did I learn about leadership?
Leadership attributes and insights I developed
The importance of resources and the allocation of resources. We had very limited manpower for the booth so volunteers (young olds) were recruited but we still did not have enough manpower. Motivating others in helping out is very important, especially those in the community. Motivating and mobilising others is the key to more resources when one has limited monetary resources.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
What I still need to develop
Better communication skills because you want the volunteers to focus on one particular task but the volunteers might be more interested in working on something else (or ways of doing certain things) (and recognising their interest is vital to retaining them as future volunteers), so good communication skills is important here.
