This week was particularly meaningful as I assisted with career training for ethnic minority students. We collaborated with the Street Law Hong Kong to invite professionals to host a sharing session for the participants. My primary responsibilities included distributing name tags, managing attendance sheets, and handling logistical tasks to ensure the event ran smoothly. The participants, ranging in age from 18 to 45, were primarily minorities from Nepal, India, and Pakistan who sought guidance on improving their employability in the current job market.

The event was divided into two parts: first, a sharing session where firm representatives provided job-seeking tips, followed by a group discussion where students were paired with career advisors for personalized feedback on CV and cover letter preparation. The discussions were insightful, and uncovered the challenges minority groups face in Hong Kong’s job market. We also explored potential solutions to their concerns. For example, many students highlighted language barriers, particularly with Mandarin, as a hurdle in seeking jobs. In response, they requested basic Mandarin classes, and we are now assessing the feasibility of incorporating such training to meet their needs.

Beyond logistical support, this experience deepened my understanding of how structural inequalities manifest in the job market, motivating me to contribute more meaningfully to necessary solutions. Every small step count, and I look forward to being part of this ongoing journey toward greater inclusion.
