NB : My experiment is part of a multi-year study conducted by the LaSUR laboratory, EPFL.

Introduction

As the number of people on planet Earth constantly increases, living together is becoming (more than it has ever been, especially with the rising visibility and acceptance of people's differences) a matter of continuance of human societies – the social aspect being by the way part of the sustainability's definition.

Therefore, recognizing and integrating the differences of the inhabitants and their proper needs become a crucial issue for the making of cities. To face this challenge, decision-makers must adapt the urban space and implement policies that promote inclusion within a plural society.

The purpose of this research is to provide a first approach to this question and propose some leads to face it.

Scope of the research and methodology

As it pretends to a complex analysis of cities, their inhabitants and living ways, this project involves a wide range of specialists including sociologists, political scientists, urban planners, architects and civil engineers.

In order to carry out a comparative investigation, the study will take place in cities that have different ways of addressing urban planning. This will notably go through the analysis of Geneva, Brussels, Hamburg and Turin, which have been shortlisted as study sites.

Love the fact that you research is multifactorial and combines social aspects with design and architectural ones. I look forward to hearing more about it Régis. Thanks for sharing!
