The need or cause you are supporting
What is the specific problem, cause or opportunity you are exploring?
With more than 71 indigenous ethnicities, Peru is a country that has learned the importance of building innovative approaches to engage, collaborate and include its native communities in all sectors. It is hoped to build creative ways through which minority communities can be given better opportunities to prosper and preserve within their cultures.
Goal
What is the big-picture idea/vision and desired outcome of what your LiA project is trying to achieve in order to address the need or problem above?
- Partnership with different local companies and NGOs to protect the cultures and advocate for the indigenous community.
Objectives
These represent how you will achieve your goal. Write down three to five SMART objectives outlining how you will achieve the overall goal.
- To understand the sociocultural background of Peru
- To understand the challenges and difficulties that the indigenous communities in Peru are facing
- To plan and implement a solution for the challenge that the organisation is facing
List any challenges, barriers or risks to achieving your objectives
- Language barrier: The local people and indigenous people mostly speak Spanish but I do not know this language. The difficulty in understanding and communicating with them may hinder my understanding of the indigenous community and the Peruvian cultures.
- Time limit: As we only got around one month to plan and actualise the project, it could be challenging for us to do something large-scale or very impactful.
Ideas to overcome barriers or challenges
- I could learn Spanish by using Duolingo. I should also be brave to ask and learn when I encounter some Spanish words or expressions that I do not understand.
- In order to make the event more attainable in short period of time, we may focus more on the materials and resources we already have at that moment and utilize our creativity to turn it into a special event. (e.g. theme-based weekend market selling products made by the indigenous groups)
