LiA project--week 2 review
What went well?
The progress I made; what was achieved and done
During the past week, I had the opportunity to actively contribute to a whole-day meditation event as the official photographer and videographer. Prior to the event, I arrived early to assist with the setup and logistical preparations, which helped to ensure a smooth atmosphere for all participants. The meditation session itself was profoundly enlightening, enabling me to rediscover a sense of inner peace. Inspired by this transformative experience, I initiated a meaningful conversation with the meditators after the event and successfully invited them to be speakers for a free meditation workshop for the public to spread the benefits of meditation.
Taking the initiative, I drafted a comprehensive proposal for the workshop and established effective communication with the guest speakers. In addition, the speakers expressed their desire for me to utilize the video clips I captured during the event to create promotional materials, so that we may spread knowledge of meditation to the wider community.
What could have been done differently?
Things that did not get done and/or could be changed
While the initial proposal for the free workshop was drafted, the process of gathering opinions from the speakers and negotiating a mutually agreeable time took longer than anticipated. As a result, there may be a delay in the scheduled workshop. In hindsight, better planning and brainstorming before the meetings could have facilitated more effective and successful communication. By allowing for more pre-planning and generating additional ideas in advance, the discussions could have been more efficient.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited
Interacting with the speakers and meditators allowed me to further develop my skill of active listening, and make me realize the importance of expressing ideas clearly. In addition, taking the initiative to communicate with speakers and draft the event proposal helped me develop my leadership and project management skills. The experience of working with others has also reinforced the importance of adaptability. In the process of gathering opinions and negotiating schedules, I further realized that being adaptable to unforeseen difficulties is crucial for maintaining productive relationships and achieving good outcomes.
What did I learn about leadership?
Leadership attributes and insights I developed
I learned that leadership includes taking the initiative to grasp opportunities and setting a clear vision and goals for event planning. It also requires effective communication to convey ideas, so that everyone can achieve a shared understanding of the event's objectives and tasks. Furthermore, to be a good leader, the ability to adapt and remain flexible in the face of unforeseen circumstances is crucial to the success of an event.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
What I still need to develop
Drawing from my past experiences, I will further sharpen my ability in being comprehensive and flexible. In the coming week, I will continue to finalize the details of the proposal with the guest speakers in the hope of carrying out a well-structured and high-quality workshop for all potential participants and making promotional materials that can help benefit more people in the community.
