1) What went well?

The progress I made; what was achieved and done:
  • Successfully organized and facilitated a support group session on aphasia for elderly individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
  • Covered important topics related to aphasia, including symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment approaches, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Utilized visual aids and materials effectively to enhance participants' understanding of the information presented.
  • Conducted an interactive activity of semantic feature analysis, encouraging active participation and application of knowledge.
  • Published social media posts on aphasia care to heighten public awareness

2) What could have been done differently?

Things that did not get done and/or could be changed:
  • Provide more time for participants to share their personal experiences and insights related to aphasia and caregiving.
  • Incorporate more real-life case studies or examples to illustrate the symptoms and challenges of aphasia.
  • Share additional resources or references for participants to explore further after the session.

3) What did I learn about myself when working with others?

Contributions, behaviors, and values I exhibited:
  • Displayed empathy and active listening when participants shared their experiences and concerns.
  • Showed adaptability by adjusting the session's pace based on participants' engagement levels.
  • Recognized the importance of patience and flexibility when addressing questions or concerns from participants.

4) What did I learn about leadership?

Leadership attributes and insights I developed:
  • Leadership involves not only conveying information but also creating a conducive environment for collaboration and discussion.
  • A successful leader adapts to the needs and dynamics of the group, making necessary adjustments to ensure engagement.
  • Providing opportunities for participants to actively participate and share their thoughts fosters a sense of ownership and engagement.

5) What do I want to develop or focus on next?

What I still need to develop:
  • Explore different interactive techniques to cater to various learning preferences and styles.
  • Strengthen my ability to manage discussions and group dynamics, ensuring all participants have an equal opportunity to contribute.
  • Further develop my skills in identifying and addressing individual needs within a group setting.
