After having completed my Leadership in Action experience at the Musée d'Art et de Culture Soufis MTO in France, I want to share a few final reflections. It was an incredible experience working with the team at the museum and supporting the opening of the second exhibition, "Resonant: Bodies, Songs, and Strings." This experience not only deepened my professional competencies in museum administration, but also significantly enhanced my French language skills through daily immersion in a francophone work environment. While my official title was Communications and Public Programs Intern, I was able to gain insight into the work of many other departments across the museum.
On the side of Communications, I was responsible for producing photo and video content for the museum's Instagram account to promote our programming and our new exhibition. I also worked to develop a long-term communications strategy for the museum for the latter half of the year. A particularly memorable experience was from the day of the exhibition opening, where I had the opportunity to meet and interview many of the participating artists.
On the side of Public Programs and Audience Engagement, it was incredibly enriching to see programs progress from conception to execution. In addition to assisting with the facilitation of our diverse programming, I am grateful to have contributed to developing the guided tour text for the new exhibition.
On the whole, the flexibility and generosity of the entire team at MACS MTO provided me with the opportunity to to work independently and take lead on many projects, which I believe is the essence of the LiA endeavour in the first place. These experiences, skills, and connections will no doubt be invaluable to my future career aspirations in the field of museum education and arts management.
