About Silvia Fernandez Mulero

I am Silvia Fernandez Mulero the Medical Director of Perioperative Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, UAE’s #1 Hospital according to Newsweek Magazine 2022’s Ranking. I work alongside a phenomenal team of doctors, nurses and allied professions that serve our patients with the highest quality and most innovative approach so they have a safe and smooth surgery and the best possible recovery.

An Anesthesiologist, Critical Care and Pain Physician by training I have more than 20 years of experience in big and small companies, both in the private and public sectors, in Spain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

I was born in Barcelona where I completed my medical training in Universidad de Barcelona; then I completed a major in Statistics for Medical Research and a PhD in Medicine. I am honoured and delighted to have been awarded the Laidlaw Scholarship for this program.

My personal and professional goal is to contribute to a better and healthier society by leading the healthcare system's paradigm shift that is needed to sort the technological and human resources challenges that is currently facing.

I am straightforward, and I value simplicity, honesty and expanding my knowledge base by talking ideas with others. I yearn to be inspired by my work, I get great satisfaction from being busy and productive, and I am good at solving problems. I am attracted to people that offer suggestions to improve my performance or to speed my progress, that challenge my ideas and speak their minds. I love to help people find what they have in common so they can connect, and I firmly believe there is no better way to achieve this than having a good conversation over food.

My hobbies are quite an eclectic selection; I enjoy repurposing furniture, the practice of yoga & meditation, crocheting, knitting, dancing, scuba diving & snorkeling, singing, journaling, reading crime novels and spirituality essays.

Looking forward to connect and find ways to grow together!

Thank you for sharing your story and motivations Nhlanzeko Khanyile! Inspiring journey and authentic evolution of mindset. I felt really indentified with your best piece of advice: your efforts are never wasted.

I am a physician by training, and I am transitioning to a very different function. Making the decision to shift gears was not easy, precisely because I felt I was "wasting" my training.
