About Ryan Rizvi
I'm Ryan, a 2026 Laidlaw scholar at Tufts University. I was born in New York City, but my father is from Karachi, Pakistan and my Mum is from Brisbane, Australia. Now my parents' immigrant dreams live on in my 3 brothers and I as we move across the country and pursue our unique interests. I believe it is precisely this complex history of migration in my family that has inspired my passion for migration studies.

Research Reflection #1
How does media framing affect migration policy? How does this affect migrant realities? What does it mean to politicize suffering? After one week, I am left with more questions than I started with.
Project Outline: Telling the Story of Migration: Media and Politics
This summer, my research will investigate the interplay of media, migration, and migration policy. In particular, I will analyze the case study of U.S. migration coverage from 2018 to the present and how it aligns with and affects migration policy.

Amazing, Jayden. An ode to pride and community. So fun to read!
What a lovely insight and post. As I continue my research, feeling so far removed from any final product or social impact or reward, you remind me to be an amateur. I am interested in my work, and my work is interesting, and somehow I keep forgetting. Thank you, Thomas and Michael, for the reminder. Best of luck with the rest of your studies!
