I am an alumni of the University of York where I received a BA (Hons) degree in English Literature and Linguistics. I was the Arts and Humanities Subject Lead on the Laidlaw Scholar's Network and the 2020-22 Arts and Humanities Undergraduate rep at the University of York.
After graduating from York I went to the University of Oxford to read for an MPhil in Linguistics, Philology, and Phonetics. After 2 years of study at Oxford I work full time in a school and also work on the HEnabled podcast, which aims to showcase the experiences of people with disabilities and long-term health conditions within the British Higher Education system. I am a graduate of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Rwanda. I am also the STEM Subject Lead. My Laidlaw research project is about bringing a system that could help minimize the number of high-school and primary students who bring cell phones to school since it's one of the major sources of distraction. I did my Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, majoring in Cybersecurity and Data Science.

Hi everyone! My name is Areesha Imaan Siddiqui and I am a recent graduate of the University of Toronto. I've completed a double major in Psychology and Sociocultural Anthropology with a minor in French. I am now a student at Goldsmiths, University of London studying an MSc Marketing and Consumer Behaviour. My research examined homeless women in Toronto and the social and cultural processes as well as policies that affect how the women are re-integrated into society. Hello! I am a multidisciplinary designer and have been with the Laidlaw Foundation for over five years, working to strengthen our global Scholar community and amplify the impact of our programmes.
My work lives somewhere between design, education, and anthropology, usually with sticky notes involved. I studied Human Sciences as an undergrad and am currently doing a Master’s in Anthropology at UCL. Degrees I struggle to explain at parties.
Born and raised in Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 Outside of work? Probably in the ceramics studio, wandering aimlessly with a podcast in my ears, attempting a handstand, or watching far too much TV. Big fan of nature and very small bugs.
I carry a very keen interest in understanding both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis in health and life sciences. Specifically, I am fascinated by the fields of human psychology and health sciences.
My Laidlaw Scholars research project focuses on whether mindfulness meditation and relaxation response meditation display synergistic effects on decreasing stress perception, when combined into one practice.
My motivation towards pursuing research in my areas of interest is partially fueled by my future aspiration to work in research, as a professor. I hope to continue building my research experience, while exploring a variety of psychology-related and health sciences-related research opportunities.
I'm a student at the University of Toronto interested in neurological and ocular health, immunological mechanisms and self-immunity, as well as innovations and leadership within health care. With enthusiasm in developing my career in quantitative finance, I had the pleasure to join the Laidlaw scholar program to conduct undergraduate research related to statistical trading. Solid training at HKU and my genuine interests in statistics and programming have equipped me for greater challenges in the analytically demanding finance environment. I am a Year 3 student at The University of Hong Kong and I am pursuing Biomedical Science as my major and Genetics as my minor. I like to keep up with the latest innovations and research in the biomedical field and aspire to be a researcher in the near future myself. As a Laidlaw Scholar, my research project will be focusing on developing a new cancer therapy delivery system by synthesizing and employing use of photosensitive, drug-carrying nanoparticles which can be triggered by light irradiation to accumulate in the esophageal tumor cells and release cancer drugs such as docetaxel. Prior to this project, I have had experience in working in a Neuromodulation Laboratory where I was part of a projecting testing the effects of hippocampal Deep Brain Stimulation and methionine drug administration on depression, anxiety and memory using animal models.
