What went well?

The progress I made; what was achieved and done

The third week is a week engaged with volunteers. We had our second meeting and divided tasks into three projects. I am responsible for making guided tour script for Huerto Roma Verde with the help of four local volunteers.

On Monday, we had an online meeting with Martian, the digitization coordinator of HRV. We presented the progress we made and the plan for the following weeks. Then we launched three different projects and made questionnaires for volunteers to let them choose which projects they want to work on. On Wednesday, we had a new organization visit called IRRI, an eco-system garden in Puebla ditrsict. This organization was founded by a woman and I was deeply impressed by her passion on sustainability and efforts to Mexico City’s environment. The next day,  I met the volunteers who will work with me and gave them brief updates on our project.

What could have been done differently?

Things that did not get done and/or could be changed

We need to make more research on each tourist spot in HRV and write detailed introductions for them, and then do translations into Spanish, Chinese, French, etc.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?

Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited

I found that I am a person who likes making detailed plans with strong time management skills. When I work on a project, I will firstly set up a clear goal and make a detailed plan showing timelines. Then I will work on it carefully and test my solutions to check whether there are some points needed improvements. Finally, I will try my best to make my project better and submit it.

What did I learn about leadership?

Leadership attributes and insights I developed

In my opinion, leaders should have the ability to motivate the others to have more engagement on a project. When I led the volunteers to work on guided tour script project, I should drive the team atmosphere and encourage them when they face any challenges. I need to check on their progress regularly through communications and help them in time.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

What I still need to develop

In my leadership role, I strived to foster open communication, ensuring that each team member realized their responsibilities and the overall project goals. I did regular check-ins, providing an opportunity for team members to talk about their concerns, seek clarification, and make advice. By providing a transparent and collaborative environment, I aimed to empower team members to perform at their best and contribute their unique perspectives.
