What went well?

The progress I made; what was achieved and done

The fourth week is testing my project period. We were still focusing on three micro projects to help HRV to promote sustainable tourism. I have finished first-version of English guided tour script and asked for help from local volunteers to do translations.

On Monday, we reviewed the written script and tested with three volunteers to have a mock tour. They gave us positive feedback and advice that we could add more engagement with visitors. Then we updated our tour script and divided tasks to the volunteers during an online meeting. On Wednesday,  we went on a field trip at Xochimilco to experience local boat culture and visited another organization. We were really happy and really enjoyed it. The next days, we continued our work and listened to one team IRRI’s showcase.

What could have been done differently?

Things that did not get done and/or could be changed

This week, we focused on translation work and will finish different versions of script until this weekend. We will have another test on next Monday and do showcase presentation on next Thursday.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?

Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited

I am really happy that I could lead our project really efficiently. Initially I made a detailed time plan for the project to have an overall perception. Then I conducted regular meetings with my teammates, volunteers and HRV staff to check on our progress. Through great cooperation,
I have finished my project quickly with high efficiency and quality.

What did I learn about leadership?

Leadership attributes and insights I developed

For leaders, we should be responsible for the whole team. When there are any challenges for the project, leaders should stand out to solve the problems actively. It is possible that conflicts occur among the team members, we should take care of each one’s thoughts and feelings to ensure that all members have the same goal.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

What I still need to develop

To write a guided tour script better, I need to improve my creative writing skills. I read some excellent scripts online first and then asked help from local volunteers who acted as tour guides before, They helped me a lot and we finished our work perfectly.
