The need or cause you are supporting

Timothy Smith Network is an NGO that aspires to bridge the digital divide in the Greater Roxbury Area. By providing access to technology tools and resources, they enable people from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue opportunities in the technology field. As summer interns at TSN Boston Digital Academy, we will join a team of local instructors teaching current healthcare technology innovations and the significance of modern healthcare.

Goal

The big-picture idea of our LiA project is to bridge the digital divide in the Greater Roxbury Area by equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to understand and use modern healthcare technologies. The desired outcome is to empower participants to leverage these technologies for better health outcomes, explore higher education opportunities, and pursue careers in the technology and healthcare fields. Through this program, students will gain a deeper understanding of the connection between physical movement and health, and how health technologies can address health disparities in their communities.

Objectives

  1. Teach students about the design and technical capacity of wearable health devices.
  2. Help students create their own health fitness technological devices.
  3. Facilitate students to interact with community organizations and engage professionals.
  4. Guide students to explore higher education and career paths.

List any challenges, barriers or risks to achieving your objectives

  1. Varied levels of prior knowledge and experience with technology among participants.
  2. Time constraints within the six-week program to cover all necessary material and complete projects.
  3. Ensuring active and sustained engagement from all participants throughout the program.

Ideas to overcome barriers or challenges

  1. Conduct an initial assessment of participants’ skill levels to tailor the training accordingly.
  2. Create a structured yet flexible curriculum to ensure all essential topics are covered within the timeframe.
  3. Implement interactive and engaging teaching methods, such as gamification and group activities, to maintain participants’ interest and involvement.
