JULY 7 - JULY 13
For the second week of my LiA experience, I went on a pilot trip to the Libraries together with the other team leaders. The site is remotely located in the mountains, which takes around a full day to arrive from Hong Kong via bus and train. The purpose of the pilot trip is to familiarise ourselves with the local environment, get in touch with our community partners face-to-face, and visit the libraries in person. It is also imperative that we settle down the accommodation and schedule based on up-to-date conditions of the local area, which are not available pre-departure due to the lack of digitisation in rural communities.
Another crucial element of the pilot trip is gathering up the delivery packages containing teaching materials ordered by our volunteers. To do so, we need to travel around the different pick-up locations around the towns and villages, before carrying them back to the libraries. We have also made a promotional poster, and distributed it around the local area as a promotion of our summer camp.
