2024 LiA Week 6 Review
What Went Well: Week 6 was a blend of routine and new experiences. I continued with my usual data collection and audio verification tasks, which have become more streamlined over time. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of helping with freshmen welcoming events at my university. Leading a group of 10 new students with a fellow classmate was both fun and rewarding. We guided them through their first-year experience and gave them a campus tour, which allowed me to share my own insights and tips for university life.
The highlight of the week was attending the high table dinner, a historical tradition at HKU. It was my first time attending such an event, and the atmosphere was lively, with everyone at the table enjoying the conversation and the experience. It was a memorable way to conclude the summer.
What Could Have Been Done Differently: While the week went smoothly, I could have perhaps spent more time preparing for the freshmen welcoming events, ensuring that I had more detailed information to share with the new students. This could have enhanced their experience and provided them with even more valuable guidance.
What I Learned About Myself When Working with Others: This week taught me that I enjoy mentoring and guiding others, especially new students who are just beginning their university journey. It was fulfilling to help them feel more comfortable and excited about their new environment. I also learned that creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere can make group activities more enjoyable for everyone.
What I Learned About Leadership: Leading the freshmen group, along with my partner, was a reminder that leadership is about collaboration and creating a welcoming environment. It also reinforced the importance of communication and being approachable, as these qualities helped our group bond and enjoy the activities together.
What Do I Want to Develop or Focus on Next? As I move forward, I want to continue developing my leadership skills, particularly in mentoring and guiding others. I also aim to explore more opportunities to engage with and support new students as they transition into university life.
What I Still Need to Develop: I still need to work on my preparation and planning skills, especially for events or activities that involve guiding others. By doing so, I can ensure that I’m providing the best possible experience and support for those I’m leading.
