Studies Theoretical Physics at the University of Leeds, currently on a year in industry at Raspberry Pi as part of the Hardware Engineering team. During my research period, I worked with academics within my department to investigate "Belonging and Engagement in a Successful Transition to University", with a particular focus on how students with less typical entry routes to higher education experience belonging.
I'm always intruiged by different ways to apply the physics and mathematics from my course, with a particular interest in quantum physics, fluid dynamics and computational physics.
In my free time I enjoy playing tennis, tinkering with technology, and flying light aircraft.
Currently, I am in my second year studying Geography BA with Quantitative Methods at the University of Leeds.
Studying International Sustainability and Environmental Management. My 1st year research project was “The pedestrian environment and new mobility services: mixed messages?”, one that I chose due to a passion for social justice and the exploration of it within varying contexts. COVID-19 caused this project to be heavily redesigned, with research objectives shifting to how the pedestrian space was used during the intial pandemic, and future idealistic spaces.

Incoming Penultimate Year Economics and Politics student at the University of Leeds, from near Stuttgart, Germany. My research project aims to create an effective mentoring approach that supports the development of self-esteem in shy children after their transition to secondary school.
I am part of a team of four scholars who are working together with Durham University to research what makes a successful Multi-Academy Trust serving disadvantaged communities. In particular, we are focusing on the Laidlaw Schools Trust, which comprises seven schools in the North of England that predominantly serve disadvantaged pupils. Overall, this is part of the effort to reduce the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their more affluent peers.

Hey :) I'm Niamh (she/her), I study Classical literature and Italian at the University of Leeds. My research focuses on mapping out the circulation of Italian literature between the eighteenth and nineteenth century in Leeds. During the research period I'll be collaborating with Leeds library, helping them catalogue the remainder of their Italian collection into their database.
Hi, everyone! My name is Sarina Zhou, a Class of 2024 student at Cornell University! I am major in Economics and minor in Law and Society. The aim of my research is to implement the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Barbados, bridge the gap in understanding between legislators and their constituents, and improve the lives of those in disadvantaged and marginalized communities. I always seek opportunities to develop my skills and knowledge in various subject areas, particularly in the fields of law and business. I hope to pursue a career in immigration or corporate law in the future.

I am studying BSc Archaeology at the University of York. My primary interests are working on a ‘large scale’: archaeological field survey, GIS and digital methods, and utilising landscape and multiperiod approaches. Accordingly, my research combines field investigation and digital analysis in a multiperiod study of the Mid-Cheshire Ridge, testing the potential contribution of comparative viewshed analysis to understanding past reasoning and change in the landscape.
Hi! I’m Nicole and I’m a first-year undergraduate at Columbia University planning to study astrophysics. This summer, I’m living in New York City and conducting remote astronomy research. My project is searching for gravitational wave counterparts, particularly binary-black hole mergers, by looking for signature halos of scattered X-ray light. Aside from research, I love rock climbing, playing tennis and piano, and exploring the city!
I am a 3rd-year psychology undergraduate studying at Trinity College Dublin. I have a particular interest in child development and psychiatric disorders, which I have been fortunate to learn a lot about through my studies. I have worked with children from a range of backgrounds in the past and plan to continue, both professionally and voluntarily, working with children in the future. I enjoy running and swimming, and I'm currently swimming every morning this month in aid of Movember!

My first-year research measured the impact of gamifying learning on improving the attainment score and content retention levels of ethnic minority and socio-economically disadvantaged students at Multi-Academy Trusts.
I co-founded the Leeds University branch of the 93% Club and acted as its Schools Outreach Officer for nearly two years. In recent years I have volunteered at my local Citizens Advice. I will be tutoring primary level English as part of the Laidlaw Foundation’s tutoring initiative with The Tutor Association.
This June, I will be embarking on a year-long placement as a Contract Management Intern at The Walt Disney Company.
Hi there! My name is Taqwa (preferred name) and I am a first year BSc Economics student at the University of Leeds. I am part of the 2021 cohort for the Laidlaw scholarship and this summer I will be working with BiteBack2030 to complete my research on childhood obesity for a future campaign. I enjoy learning languages and having already mastered English and Arabic, my next challenge is Mandarin! Besides that, I enjoy getting involved with anything creative whether that's painting, sewing, embroidery, baking or cooking.
