Week 2- LiA
For my second week at Braven, I had the opportunity to join meetings with the recruitment team that discussed strategies to enroll more undeclared majors and students from unconventional education paths in the Braven Course Accelerator across our different Higher Education Partners. Since the premise of the Braven course is angled towards helping students secure a strong first-job after graduation, the recruitment team also wants to make sure that older students who have had work experience before entering college feel there is space for them as well. From working on my research paper on the CUNY transfer pipeline, I had the chance to speak with three student parents who worried about the opportunity cost of attending college and expressed concern that the time they spent earning their degrees will not outweigh the money they could have made working full-time over the course of those four years. However, Braven's plans to recruit students during transfer student orientation provides me with hope that the students who enrolling in the course are the ones who would benefit the most. Outside of meetings, I have also begun working on with briefs for the news sites team, which details the progress of Braven's developing partnerships with propsective Higher Education Partners. From this, I have learned the strategy that goes into Braven's efforts to acquire new partnerships to ensure that the colleges they are working with have a shared commitment towards giving students from all backgrounds a chance towards achieving progress and social mobility. I greatly look forward to learning more about the work that goes into fostering meaningful relationships across key stakeholders at our Higher Education Partners!
