Numbers and Narratives: How My Mentor Transformed My Research
Having grown up in Delhi, my project has been extremely personal from day one. My mentor’s guidance has helped me appreciate the complexities and nuances of fieldwork. She has taught me the value of building trust and rapport with the people I interview, emphasizing that meaningful data often comes from genuine, respectful interactions. This has made my research process more rigorous and ethically sound, ensuring that the voices of the vendors are accurately represented and heard.
Additionally, working with my mentor has broadened my analytical skills. She has introduced me to new methodologies and frameworks, encouraging me to think critically and creatively about the data I collect. This has enhanced my ability to draw insightful conclusions and make connections that I might have otherwise missed.
Ultimately, my mentor has instilled in me the importance of integrating academic research with a compassionate understanding of the human experience. This balanced perspective will undoubtedly guide my future endeavors, reminding me that the most impactful research is deeply rooted in empathy and a commitment to making a positive difference.
