Mentor Meeting 3: Wrapping up to the Conclusion

This is the third meeting I have had with my mentor over my research project. This week we had a long discussion about how we can finalise the project while making room for development past the six week mark.

This was a constructive meeting in which we looked at all the documents I have produced since we last spoke. One of the most constructive aspects was the small tweaks that can be made to my discourse analysis scheme in order to get the most out of my academic write up. Once we discussed the challenges of Blue and Purple labour, one of the main conclusions we came to was that one aspect of my project is actually updating and challenging Levitas' established framework, therefore updating the three discourses she championed in order to show how they have mutated over time.

We also discussed the write up of Ed Miliband which I completed last week, and how it links into the wider literature on his work which is positive. I need to make some changes to the way I have presented my statistical analysis, but overall my progress has been positive and fits within theories already made about Miliband's leadership. I have a few actions on my academic style which I can make changes to and ensure that my write ups after this do not make any of the same mistakes.

FOLLOW UP ACTIONS:

    • Make changes to discourse scheme and write into the analysis scheme why I have needed to update and change Levitas' discourses as the party has changed over time.
    • Make the statistical changes needed to the presentation of my data.
    • Start and finish Corbyn analysis- then when this is complete and the write up is done I should have a concrete conclusion!
