LiA Week 6 Log
This week marked the culmination of my work on the SGP podcast, and it was truly an inspiring and reflective experience. The highlight was a Zoom interview I conducted with another founding figure of SGP. The conversation was incredibly enriching, not only because of the insights she shared but also because of the deeper understanding I gained about what it takes to build and sustain an organization like SGP.
Her words resonated with me on many levels, but one moment that particularly stood out was when she spoke about the impact SGP has had on its members. She mentioned how members who took on leadership roles within the organization often expressed that joining SGP was a turning point in their lives. One quote she shared that really struck me was, “If I didn’t join SGP, I wouldn’t have become a leader in my community.” Hearing this reinforced the significance of global feminist co-leadership and how it brings opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access to them. It’s a powerful reminder of the ripple effect that organizations like SGP can have, empowering individuals to step into leadership roles and make a difference in their communities.
During the interview, Kristy also highlighted a critical concern that had been on her mind: the sustainability of the podcast and, more broadly, SGP’s need for increased membership and donations to ensure its survival. This concern really struck a chord with me. It’s one thing to create a podcast, but it’s another to ensure that it remains viable and continues to serve its purpose over time. Kristy’s words inspired me to take a step further in my work.
As a result, I finalized several key documents this week to support the podcast’s success. These included the SGP Co-Leadership Podcast Host Script, which now has a finalized structure that guides listeners through the narrative of co-leadership with clarity and engagement. I also completed the SGP Episode Planning Template, a tool designed to help streamline the production process for future episodes, ensuring consistency and quality as the podcast evolves. However, the most significant document I created was the SGP Podcast Sustainability Plan.
Inspired by the interviewee’s concerns, I wanted to make sure that this podcast not only launches successfully but also has the foundations in place to thrive long-term. The Sustainability Plan outlines strategies for maintaining the podcast, including ways to increase membership, attract donations, and engage a wider audience. It also addresses how we can adapt and grow the podcast, keeping it relevant and impactful as the organization and its needs evolve.
Reflecting on this week, I’m filled with a sense of both accomplishment and purpose. The interview was a powerful reminder of why this work matters and the impact it can have on individuals and communities. It also underscored the importance of thinking ahead—of not just focusing on the immediate task at hand, but also considering how we can ensure that our efforts are sustainable and continue to make a difference in the long run.
Looking back over the past six weeks, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made on the podcast. We’ve gone from brainstorming ideas to conducting interviews with key figures and now, we’re laying down the groundwork to ensure that this project has the longevity it needs to truly make an impact. I’m excited to see how the podcast will be received and how it will contribute to SGP’s mission of promoting gender justice through global feminist leadership.
This final week has been a fitting conclusion to my work on the podcast, reinforcing the values of co-leadership, sustainability, and global engagement that are at the heart of SGP. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this project, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it continues to grow and evolve.
