LiA Week 1 Reflection
Week 1: Inspiration week
What went well?
The progress I made; what was achieved and done
- Learned about the social and climate issues in Mexico
- Learned about design thinking that assists us in building the community project
- Reached out to other scholars from different universities and got to know more about their pursue and cultures
- Introduced the culture and social issues of Hong Kong to other scholars during the Cultural Fair
- Reached out to the organizations and volunteers that we will be working with for the climate and community projects
What could have been done differently?
Things that did not get done and/or could be changed
- Could have more courage to take the initiative to reach out to scholars from other universities or organizations.
- Could do more research regarding the history and current social issues faced by Mexicans such that the project developed can target more on what the upmost need of the indigenous community.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited
- I am good at gathering ideas raised by others and further build up possible solutions based on the ideas
- I am also open to suggestions raised by others such that I can keep improving my thoughts and ability
- I also learned that we should not be afraid to ask questions if we are unsure about what to do next to avoid making unnecessary mistakes
What did I learn about leadership?
Leadership attributes and insights I developed
- 1st step: Empathy → identify the problems, “what would happen if…”
Creative principles:
- User-centered
- Collaborative
- Prototype (projects, MVP → that is not the final version of the projects, can further enhance base on the experience we are having)
- How to avoid product design without thinking user experience?
- Think about will users be wiling to use the design or will choose another path/use it in another way?
- Possible difficulties when using?
5-stages (Interactive process)
- Empathize:
- Observation & immersed in listening to other’s thoughts and feeling;
- Can make things playful/interesting to bring a solution to a problem we see (e.g. Neat Streets by HUBBUB & CommonWorks)
- Define: identify the problem that is wanted to be solved
- Ideate: Explore existing product & services
- Prototype: creation of physical elements that will allow us to test our idea and see how people interact with it.
- Test: evaluate performance and make improvement
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
What I still need to develop
- Learn how to better cooperate with the local organisations in the best way such that the event we organise matches with their aim and ultimate goal
- Learn how to guide the volunteer in helping us with the event we will be holding while also assist them in achieving their goal of volunteering
