Dates: June 23- June 26

Organization: Youth Work Ireland

Days until our PRIDE event: 0! PRIDE was awesome!

Please see my reflection below:

1) What went well? In five weeks, we organized a PRIDE event for Youth Work Ireland's entire network. After a celebration at our site with music, food, and art, we transitioned our entire team to walk in the Dublin PRIDE parade. It is with the greatest joy and gratitude that I reflect on a successful PRIDE day. It was the honor of a lifetime to create a safe space for 700+ youth, to celebrate PRIDE, and to even march in the parade! Throughout the entire day, I felt safe, welcomed, and energized by both my work team and my larger community. I was especially proud to interact with the ice cream truck and the wall mural as I had helped book both vendors! It was a moment of celebration all around.

2) What could havre been done differently? In all honestly, I have no notes for this section this week. The event was spectacular, and I feel incredibly proud to have contributed. If anything, I would reflect on the need to wear sun screen!

3) What did I learn about myself when working with others? I feel most fulfilled in a team environment when I believe my contributions have been recognized, and when I can recognize and celebrate the contributions of my peers. As we conclude an experience that has been incredibly collaborative, I was grateful for my team that intentionally affirmed the work of every member of our community. We even sent WhatsApp shout-outs! I am grateful to have been part of a team that prioritized community care.

4) What did I learn about leadership? I learned this simple yet important lesson: A leader always plans for the unexpected. At our PRIDE event, we had extra water, extra food, and medical staff on-site for when/if care was needed. These resources proved vital, and I am grateful for my team's diligence.

5) What do I want to develop or focus on next? I have now spent five weeks abroad, and I have literally hosted a PRIDE celebration! My main priority right now is to reflect on this incredible moment. I will be forever grateful both to Laidlaw and to Youth Work Ireland for this life-changing experience.
