An Overview of this Week's Research Activities:

What was the plan and how did I execute it

  1. After meticulously going through the Spanish-related content of my paper, I was able to synthesizing all the necessary legal information that I needed for my posters and set it aside. As stated last week, being able to accomplish the paper first was a lifesaver in this task since I didn't have to write my paragraphs from scratch. Aside from textual evidence, I also decided to include graphs, a timeline, and even a pictograph as an artistic touch, but also to facilitate the reading of my poster. While I didn't follow the template the CRF (Center for Research and Fellowship) provided, I created my own but was still able to include all the necessary headings for a research poster: (Abstract, Introduction, Methodology, Analysis, Conclusion, Citations, Relevant Literature and Acknowledgements). It has been a while since I've had to create a poster of this kind, so I very much enjoyed the creative nature of this week's work.

Anticipated Plans for the Following Week:

What are my project aspirations moving forward

  1. With this second week dedicated to actual creating my research paper, my anticipated plans will revolve around paper revisions. By the following week (06/26- 06/30), I want to be at a stage where I have gone through the first round of changes and hopefully move on to the comments from my next mentor.

Accomplishments and Goals

Specific tasks

  1. I was able to FINISH my entire poster, while including a plethora of graphics, colors, and other stylistic techniques.
  2. I was able to send out my poster to multiple mentors for feedback on visuals and on content.
  3. Although I thought I would take more than five days, I surpassed my own expectations and was able to accomplish all the design work on Friday, June 23rd, continuing the great pace that will lead into the following week(s).
  4. I was able to attend two group cohort events on June 16th and June 21st.
  5. I participated in this week's CRF-organized research workshop. The topic for this session was a general mid-summer check-in.
  6. I met with my faculty advisor, Professor David Burk of the Economics Department at Georgetown University again on Thursday (06/22) where we discussed the rationale for his peer revisions and any initial thoughts he may have had on my poster.
  7. Fulfill my 40 hour a week work requirement by taking the Georgetown University Transportation Services (GUTS) buses to the Georgetown Law Center and working from 9-5 everyday.

    Possible Challenges?

What were my setback(s), if any, and the steps that need to be taken to address this issue

    1. The only setback I had was figuring out if I wanted to use the university template for research posters or create my own template. I would end designing my poster from scratch, but I still believe it looks amazing. Besides these smaller obstacles, the rest of the poster making process went fairly smooth.

Thank you for reading the updates for Week 4 of my fellowship research project, I look forward to describing where I am this time next week.
