Exploring Mass Photometry and Particle Tracking for Glycan Analysis
Supervised by: Prof. Richter, School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Leeds
Project Background: As a Physics undergraduate , I'm embarking on an exciting journey into the world of bio-nano-physics. This project combines cutting-edge mass photometry techniques with advanced particle tracking algorithms to study the behaviour of hyaluronan molecules diffusing on a solid-supported lipid bilayers in 2D .
Research Objectives:
- Develop proficiency in mass photometry techniques and professional lab methodologies.
- Implement and refine a mass-sensitive particle tracking algorithm.
- Create a novel measurement technique for determining the mass of hyaluronan molecules as they diffuse through a solid-supported lipid bilayer.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of professors, PhD students, and postgraduate researchers within the Richter research group.
Expected Outcomes: This project aims to contribute to our understanding of glycan behavior in biomimetic environments, potentially opening new avenues for research in fields such as drug delivery and cell membrane studies.
Skills Development: Throughout this project, I will be learning professional lab techniques, data analysis methods, and collaborative research practices from scratch. This hands-on experience will provide invaluable insights into the world of academic research and biophysics.
Stay tuned for updates on this exciting venture into the microscopic world of glycans and lipid bilayers!
