AsI reflect on my Leadership in Action project, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude and joy. This initiative was not just about teaching technology and health education; it was about building connections and empowering young minds to explore their potential. Throughout this journey, I learned invaluable lessons in leadership, mentorship, and the power of collaboration.

From the very beginning, the warmth and dedication of the TSN staff created an inviting atmosphere that made my experience truly special. Their passion for helping young people was infectious, and their support was a constant source of encouragement. I felt welcomed and valued, which inspired me to give my best to the students. Working alongside these committed individuals allowed me to see firsthand the impact that kindness and community can have on a shared mission.

Our project unfolded over six weeks, starting with an engaging introduction to technology and its intersection with health. In our first week, we explored prevalent health issues and discussed how technology could be a force for change. This initial conversation not only set the stage for our work together but also encouraged students to think critically about the world around them. It was heartwarming to see their eagerness to learn and the connections they made with one another, fostering a sense of camaraderie that would continue throughout the project.

In the second week, we dove into the fundamentals of coding. I quickly realized that my role was to be a facilitator, helping students navigate the complexities of Python. Each student came with different backgrounds—some had prior experience, while others were seeing Python for the first time. This variety posed a challenge, but it also provided an incredible opportunity for personalized learning. I was deeply impressed by their enthusiasm, and thanks to the collaborative spirit among the students and the support from my colleagues, we created a dynamic and interactive classroom environment.

The third week took us into the world of electronics, where we explored circuits and the principles of voltage and current. Although this material was more challenging, witnessing students connect theoretical concepts with hands-on activities was immensely rewarding. Using Arduino kits, they lit up LEDs and experimented with sensors, all while sharing their excitement with one another. It was in these moments that I truly felt the essence of teamwork and innovation.

During the fourth week, the students identified health problems they were passionate about and brainstormed potential solutions. I guided them in conducting research and developing plans for their prototypes. This phase was especially fulfilling as I watched students come alive with their ideas, fueled by the support of both the TSN staff and their peers. The genuine connections they formed during this time made it clear that we were all invested in each other’s success.

As we moved into the implementation phase in the fifth week, the pace picked up. Each student had their unique vision for their project, and I was there to ensure they had the resources and guidance to bring those ideas to life. It was a whirlwind of activity as I checked in with each student, helping them troubleshoot technical issues and celebrate their progress. The collaborative atmosphere created by both the TSN workers and the students fostered a sense of belonging that made every challenge manageable.

Finally, in the sixth week, we prepared for the students’ presentations. This was a moment of culmination, where they showcased their prototypes and reflected on their journeys. Encouraging them to articulate the stories behind their projects reminded me of the importance of connection in leadership. The joy in their eyes as they shared their experiences was contagious, and it was a privilege to be part of their journey.

Looking back, I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to connect with the students and the TSN staff. The bonds we formed and the knowledge we shared were truly special. The kindness and support I received from everyone around me made my time there not just productive but genuinely enjoyable.

Through this experience, I learned that leadership is about serving others—listening to their needs, inspiring them, and fostering a collaborative environment. It’s about creating a space where everyone feels valued and empowered to pursue their passions. As I move forward, I carry these lessons with me, eager to continue inspiring and uplifting those around me. My time with these young innovators was more than a project; it was a beautiful journey of connection, growth, and shared purpose.
