Adaptable and innovative individuals are imperative in the rapidly changing world hence reflective practice has gained prominence in higher education institutions. Reflection is an intellectual and effective practice that involves ruminating onexperiences which then provides a framework for future actions. Not only is it an essential aspect of life but also an integral skill for students and a key graduate outcome that contributes to future success.

Despite reflection being a 'seemingly straightforward' task students still have difficulties engaging with this process.  My research aims to identify the key barriers/ challenges that students face when engaging in reflective tasks and further develop support and scaffolding that will enhance their engagement with reflective practice.

I will achieve this through a comprehensive analysis of various literature and data gathering. Additionally,  student opinions on the subject will be sought through questionnaires. Data analysis and dissemination of findings from these questionnaires will then enable the development of strategies to improve student engagement. The results of this research will be used to review reflective teaching elements and the impact will then be assessed through future student engagement with the new resources and with follow-up questionnaires.
