Strange Loops and Substitution Tilings (End of Laidlaw Report)

This research investigates how strange loops can be created between different hierarchy levels on a substitution tiling imposed on variations of Escher's Grid, which is the grid that the lithograph 'Print Gallery' by M.C. Escher was imposed on. A non-mathematical summary can be found in Section 1.1.

My research project involves investigating how to create aperiodic, substitution tilings that contain different hierarchy levels so that a strange loop between these hierarchy levels is produced on various complex geometric grids. Much of the focus of this project is related to the complex geometry of the lithograph 'Print Gallery' by M.C. Escher.
