Hi! I'm Amanda, a third year Neuroscience student and Laidlaw alum from UCL. I'm Swedish-Persian and grew up in Sweden before moving to London for uni. These days, alongside my studies, I work for the Foundation as a Marketing Assistant. For my first year research project, I worked on optimising alginate hydrogels for 3D astrocyte culture systems. In simpler terms, I was figuring out the best way to prepare a jelly-like scaffolds so that star-shaped brain cells called astrocytes could grow in three dimensions rather than flat on a dish. This matters because 3D environments mimic the brain more realistically, which could help researchers develop better treatments for neurological disorders!  For my Leadership-in-Action project, I co-created Beyond the Books, a resource designed to help students from underrepresented backgrounds navigate the unwritten rules of university life, from internships and networking to professional opportunities that aren't always obvious if you're the first in your family to go to uni. Hey :) I'm Mahnoor, a student at the University of Oxford specialising in human and environmental geography. My interest lies primarily in climate justice, and I have been working in the UK climate-change sector since 2021 on intersectional youth inclusion, just transition, green jobs, the energy sector, climate and environmental policy, and community-led action and co-creation. Through this work, I’ve collaborated with a wide range of organisations like the UN, the UK Government, think tanks, NGOs, philanthropic organisations, and youth-led charities. Currently, I am a trustee at the OVO Foundation, where I help deliver climate-justice grants. I also freelance as a workshop facilitator, consultant, and speaker on the topics above. My summer research explored the demand and supply-side restrictions to extracurricular provisions in Oxford, UK- which is on track to being published by Taylor and Francis. Hi! Having previously been a Laidlaw Undergraduate Scholar studying English Literature at UCL, I am now the Marketing Manager of the Laidlaw Foundation.  My research looked at collaborative and innovative practices in academic publishing, and community building is something I built a passion for during my Leadership in Action.
