President, Laidlaw Alumni Society (East Asia Chapter)

I am a final year Business student at the University of Hong Kong. I am also the President of the Laidlaw Alumni Society (East Asia Chapter). So please feel free to hit me up regarding any ideas you may have! I am a firm believer that Business can be used to lift people's lives up and that was my primary objective behind choosing my degree. I believe that by bringing together bright minds for a program (like the Laidlaw Undergraduate Research and leadership program), the foundation is doing an excellent job at making a positive impact in the world. I am passionate about Women in Business and promoting its objectives. I have taken part in many different programs but my collaboration with the Laidlaw Foundation has been a life changing experience and I am seeking to give back to this community in anyway possible. I enjoy public speaking, dancing, having conversations with a wide range of people and solo traveling. My experiences have led me to believe in the power of ambition and the Laidlaw Foundation has always given me access to different platforms to achieve my own ambitions. If you'd like to have a conversation about absolutely anything, feel free to hit me up!

Hello! I've been part of the Laidlaw Foundation for over 4 years, working on strengthening our global community and broadening our initiatives aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty, reducing inequality, and cultivating a new generation of leaders. I'm currently completing a Masters in Anthropology & Professional Practice at UCL, delving into my passion for using ethnographic research and design thinkig to effect systemic change, particularly in the education sector. My journey in design has been diverse, beginning with graphic design, transitioning into UX/UI and service design, and now evolving into strategic design and innovation.  Originally from the vast steppes of Kazakhstan 🇰🇿, I pursued my undergraduate degree in Human Sciences at UCL. Emma Franck-Gwinnell

Associate (Dispute Resolution), Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP

Hello! I'm Emma, one of the Founding Co-Presidents of the Laidlaw Alumni Society. I'm passionate about the impact of ESG issues on businesses' strategies, diversity in business and musical theatre (in that order!). My Undergraduate Research project focused on UK legislation which requires organisations to publish an annual statement about the efforts they are making to stop modern slavery in their supply chains. In particular, I looked at whether this legislation is making a difference in the fight against modern slavery in supply chains (spoiler alert: it's not!). These days, I work as a lawyer, advising corporate clients on supply chain, ESG, product liability and regulatory risk management and dispute resolution.
