Today marks the beginning of the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament in the UK. The best of the best in the world of tennis will go head to head over the next two weeks to compete in this prestigious competition. 🎾


Venus Williams (1980-) is an American professional tennis player. Born in California, her talent became apparent at a very young age. She received support from her family to pursue her talent in the sport. 

She turned professional in 1994, and reached her first Grand Slam final in 1997. To date, she has won seven Grand Slam titles, five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open. Williams also claimed the gold medal in singles at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 2002, she became the first African-American woman to be ranked No. 1 in singles in the Open era and the second overall. She has also won fourteen doubles Grand Slam titles alongside her sister, Serena Williams. 

Williams is credited as one of the greatest in the sport by many.
