In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, we are featuring a quote from Temple Grandin, an American academic and animal rights activist who lives with autism.
Temple Grandin (1947-) is an American academic and animal behaviouralist. She is currently a faculty member at Colorado State University. Grandin is an outspoken proponent of the humane treatment of livestock and an autism spokesperson. Not diagnosed with autism until adulthood, she has since offered regular insights into her personal experiences of growing up with autism. An accomplished academic, she has authored and co-authored numerous books and journal articles on animal behaviour and autism.
In 2010, Grandin was included in the Time 100 list of the 100 most influential people in the world. In the same year, an HBO film titled Temple Grandin explored her life of growing up with autism, entering academia and becoming an activist for the humane treatment of animals. In 2017, she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in the state of New York.
