Outline of Research Project
This summer, I will be working on the “Development of Student Skills in Reflection” project, with Dr. Ruth Norman as my supervisor. The importance of this research project directly mirrors the significance of reflection needed to successfully navigate both professional and personal worlds. With employers seeking adaptive and innovative employees, skills such as reflection will play a key part in their future success. However, the term "reflection" can be perceived differently. This may be due to cognitive barriers linked with neuronal development, making the process of reflection feel frustrating and difficult to grasp. Growing up internationally can lead to many things getting lost in translation, and reflection may be understood differently by someone whose mother tongue is not English.
My six-week research will therefore explore the barriers faced by students that prevent them from participating in reflective activities and methods that can be employed to overcome these barriers. The long-term aim is to develop practical methods that will support all students in reflective practices. I will be investigating various literature on this topic as well as collecting and analyzing data by conducting interviews and questionnaires.
