Make_Sense Americas LiA Mexico City
Weeks 5 and 6 were largely based on re-grouping with IRRI to evaluate our impact as Laidlaw scholars.
At Huerto Tlatelolco, my team and I interviewed the students of the sustainable cooking workshop and learned about the importance of access to nutritious food especially in urban settings such as Mexico City. We were also able to speak to the director of Huerto Tlatelolco and learn about the impact of having an alliance with IRRI to provide education on education for sustainable development.

The urban agricultural workshop located in Xochimilco in the rural Chinampas was attributed to the lack of clean water for the farmers, due to the contamination of the water. We learned firsthand how the Chinampas farms operated and were able to speak with two farmers. We also learned about the direct impact IRRI has in these communities through the implementation of the water tanks. With the help of our volunteers, we were able to host interviews, build community, and survey the community beneficiaries on potential ways IRRI as an organization could improve.

In our last few days, Make_Sense hosted an impact carnival and we were able to host our own sustainable cooking workshop inspired by IRRI. We promoted IRRI to over 30+ people and presented our previous work.
