LiA Uganda - Week 2 Reflection
This week, I played some football with the primary kids. They are pretty good at playing football, and so we decided to host a series of games (primary class vs another primary class). Primary 6 ended up dominating for some reason.
Further to this, I also went to a mobile clinic. Kasiisi has employed a mobile clinic throughout the last decade. Its purpose is to provide healthcare in very remote villages surrounding Kibale National Park. Again, the rationale is that if peoples' health are good, then they wouldn't need to go inside the forest to harvest its resources for survival. My main task was registering individuals, and after they were registered, they would proceed to obtain a blood, weight, and temperature checks. Subsequently, they would meet one of the two doctors that we would bring with us and they would prescribe medicine accordingly. In the end, the patients would leave with some medicine that would last them for a while.
I found this activity extremely meaningful despite not having any medical knowledge. Even though I was registering people, just the fact that I would greet them and ensure them they will be well-looked after was enough for me to do such a monotonous job so seriously. In the end, I helped register 162 people, or otherwise, assisted in helping 162 people receive necessary medication for whatever ills they had. Pretty cool.
