This week marked the exhilarating start of my journey with the Timothy Smith Network's Boston Design Academy, where I am part of the Tech Your Health team, specialising in wearable tech development. Our induction meeting was brimming with excitement as we met the whole team, kicking things off with icebreakers and introductions. It was immediately apparent that we were setting out with an incredibly positive tone for the weeks ahead.

As we broke out into our individual teams, we quickly embraced the challenge of teaching the curriculum we had developed. Despite only a few preparation meetings leading up to our travel to Boston, we jumped into instructing the students of a fairly wide age group: from 14 to 18. Engaging students with varying levels of enthusiasm required us to adopt diverse teaching styles, focusing on pitching the content at an accessible level for everyone. It was a fantastic learning experience right from the start.

Looking ahead, we will be transitioning from fundamental health and fitness education and the engineering product design cycle to the technical realms of programming, Arduino skills, and 3D modelling. The 3D modelling is the part of the course I will be leading, and although prior to signing up to the TSN LiA I hadn't used Fusion 360 or TinkerCAD before, I am excited to dive in and guide the students. It's a big challenge, but one that I am eager to tackle with enthusiasm.

Our ultimate mission is to inspire and guide the students towards independently producing a wearable tech device prototype that fills a gap in current technology. This will require a great deal of creative and critical thinking, pushing the boundaries to create something truly innovative and feasible.

The Laidlaw scholar team has been phenomenal, and working with such an enthusiastic and motivated group has been a joy. We've also had a fantastic time developing a strong team cohesion as we explore Boston together. I am thrilled to continue this journey with them over the next five weeks and can't wait to see what amazing things we'll achieve together!
