Sian Beilock, the president of Barnard College and one of the world’s leading experts on the brain science behind “choking under pressure,” explores how we can perform our best even under stressful circumstances. Join us on Thursday, June 23rd, at 2pm BST to discover:
- When we worry about our own performance, how does this cognitive strain affect us?
- Where does anxiety come from?
- How can we mentally prepare ourselves and others for success?
- How can we mitigate external factors in universities or families that prevent students from performing their best?
Register soon because space is limited. If you are a Laidlaw scholar, please let us know you're coming by signing in and clicking the blue 'Send RSVP' button.
If you are not a Laidlaw Scholar, let us know you're coming by filling out this form. We look forward to seeing you on June 23rd!

Hello! I was Laidlaw scholar in 2019, and I studied national, regional, and local identity in northern Tajikistan through the lens of women's fashion.
For a year after graduating, I worked for the UN Mine Action Service which removes landmines from conflict and post-conflict regions. Now I have returned to the Laidlaw Foundation!
Please feel free to reach out on the network, on LinkedIn, or by email. I'm always happy to meet new people and chat, especially about nationalism/politics of gender/Central Asia/demining/UN/creative writing or even ballroom dance :)
