Hi! I'm Alexa -- nice to e-meet you. I am a current fourth year student at Tufts University studying Biopsychology. In my first summer, I conducted a preliminary data analysis on chimpanzee behavior. After taking a pause last summer to complete classes for my major, I am excited to be back with the program. I love chatting about anything and everything, from the history of ice ages to the evolution of art! Hi There! I am Sharon, a rising junior studying Business and Global Affairs at Georgetown University. I am minoring in statistics and planning on pursuing a career in international development, with a specific focus on bridging the aid-development gap to mitigate protracted displacement around the world.  For my Laidlaw research project, I am working with Professor Christi Smith of Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of International Migration to study the phenomenon of increasing Consulting publications and work on migration and refugee integration-related issues. I aim to explore how the emergence of a new organizational form in the refugee services space might shift the course of refugee incorporation during a time of increasing forced migration and rising political polarization, and its potential policy implications. Our study analyzes 24 publicly available consulting reports using mixed methods to identify prominent and distinguishable patterns and themes. We are also conducting interviews with consultants to explore the internal and external factors contributing to these themes. By contrasting these findings with those from the public sector and NGOs, we aim to highlight different approaches to migration and refugee issues. In my free time, I like to dance (my faves are Chinese Folk and Classical Dances!), watch TV shows, and spend quality time with my siblings! I love food and are always excited to try out new cuisines! I believe that nonverbal and nonwritten communication, including all performance art and culinary practices, are powerful ways to build connections and enhance cross-cultural appreciation and dynamism.   One fun fact about me is that I am an identical twin. Hello Everyone! My name is Supakorn, but I normally go by Nikko, I am a fourth-year undergraduate Astrophysics Student at the University of St Andrews. My research this summer is to produce a catalogue of active galactic nuclei for a future space telescope mission to help further our understanding of the origin of our Universe. As a student from Thailand, I have worked with the National Astronomical Research Institution of Thailand during most of my breaks since the summer of 2018. I find the observational and computational side of Astrophysics to be the most fascinating, and I intend to specialise in either Extragalactic or Stellar Evolution in the radio wavelength in the future. I am trained for both AZ and Equatorial mounts for manual refractor and reflector telescopes, as well as basic landscape astrophotography. I am currently the president of the University of St Andrews Astronomical Society. Apart from being at the observatory, I enjoy a good walk/hike and spending time outside. I don't play the piano as much as I should, but I do enjoy participating in musical activities, ceilidh included. I also do magic which seems to surprise most people (Not the conjuring kind).

My name is Duncan Johnson and I'm the founder of BX Coding, a nonprofit dedicated to educating underserved K-12 students in the STEM fields. Over the past six years, I've taught hundreds of students the fundamentals of programming and engineering. I especially love teaching elementary school students -- their creativity and energy are boundless!  My Laidlaw research project is developing a curriculum that helps transition middle school students from block-based coding (Scratch) to text-based coding (Python).  This summer, I traveled to Nepal to work with the nonprofit Karkhana Samuha, where I taught students in public schools and created educational materials for students in grades 6-10. At Tufts University, I'm a Computer Science major, and I'm pursuing minors in Engineering Education and Entrepreneurship for Social Impact. 

Hi! I'm Bennett, and I'm studying Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Music at Tufts University. I'm honored to be a Laidlaw scholar, and I hope my research can one day impact the global fight against disease.

Andrew Singleton has recently joined the Tufts-Laidlaw Undergraduate Research and Leadership Programme team as a Programme Administrator and is excited to continue to elevate the Laidlaw Programming for current and future scholars. He joined the programme from Venture Café, which connects and educates the entrepreneurial and innovation community in Boston through programs/spaces/events and many other cities around the world. He has a B.S. from MIT in Biology and a background in social-impact enterprises, wind-power, user-computer-interfaces, as well as computer network design. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys travel, hiking, and wildlife photography.
