Laidlaw Scholar , Oxford

Hello, I am Maisie! I am a fourth-year Classics student at Oxford. I like to spend my time (when I don't have work due) cooking and baking cakes for my family or making collages out of old magazines.

Jasmine Calder

Student, London School of Economics

Hi everyone, I'm Jasmine, and I'm studying BA Geography at LSE. I'd like to consider myself as an at least partially competent social scientist, but my particular interests are in modern history, gender, and urban studies. I'll happily waffle on about any of those things, and I'm always excited to meet people with shared interests. Outside of academics, I enjoy ballet, marvel, disney music and playing with my dog.  I wanted to become a Laidlaw scholar because I enjoy doing research, and I wanted to see if I could take my burgeoning skills outside of university to make a difference (an utter cliché, I know). I'm hoping to do that this summer with my LiA working for Variety, a UK-based charity that looks to support children with disabilities from disadvantaged backgrounds. I will be running a research project investigating where there are gaps in the capacity of these children to access assistive technology, and what we can do about it. If you're interested, if you have any ideas or knowledge, send me a message or an email!
Asha Scaria Vettoor

Founder, Swara Leadership In Action Program

Hi everyone! I run the CraftHER Leadership-in-action program by @Swara - Voice of Women. Here's our IG: www.instagram.com/craftherbyswara/ I’m Asha Scaria Vettoor, an entrepreneur and Laidlaw Scholar from the University of Oxford. I run Swara, a social enterprise based in India that creates income opportunities for women through ethical fashion and storytelling. We also host CraftHER, a 6-week Leadership-in-Action program that brings Laidlaw scholars from around the world to Kerala to learn from women-led enterprises, grassroots organisations, and artisan communities. I’m passionate about building bridges between global learners and local changemakers in my community and always up for a conversation on social entrepreneurship, ethical supply chains, or running programs in remote parts of India.
Holly Toombs

3rd year student reading Psychology and Linguistics, University of Oxford

Hi, I'm Holly! I'm really interested in Psychology, Linguistics, social action, and policy. I completed my Laidlaw research project last summer (2024), on UK policy around extra-curricular activities. This summer (2025), I completed my LiA in Mexico, designing a social media campaign for an NGO supporting survivors of gender-based violence. I'm currently completing an undergraduate research project on beliefs and knowledge in Semantics and Pragmatics. Next academic year, my Master's project will look at the spread of mental health misinformation on social media. Would love to chat more if you have any questions!

Mahnoor Kamran

Student , University of Oxford

Hey :) I'm Mahnoor, a student at the University of Oxford specialising in human and environmental geography. My interest lies primarily in climate justice, and I have been working in the UK climate-change sector since 2021 on intersectional youth inclusion, just transition, green jobs, the energy sector, climate and environmental policy, and community-led action and co-creation. Through this work, I’ve collaborated with a wide range of organisations like the UN, the UK Government, think tanks, NGOs, philanthropic organisations, and youth-led charities. Currently, I am a trustee at the OVO Foundation, where I help deliver climate-justice grants. I also freelance as a workshop facilitator, consultant, and speaker on the topics above. My first-year project explored the demand- and supply-side restrictions to extracurricular provisions in Oxford, and is now published in Taylor and Francis. I am in Cairo, Egypt, for my LIA at the moment where I'm working with Megawra, an architectural and built environment collective specialising in urban regeneration, heritage conservation and community co-production in Historic Cairo.  Please never hesitate to reach out for a chat :) In community, Mahnoor
